About the role as Head of Engineering
You are leading a team of engineers responsible for different aspects of the greenhouse, such as the steel and luminum structures, as well as the technical systems such as HVAC, electrical and irrigation. Your role will involve resource management and longer term planning, including where required training and development of your team, and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders.

The role of Head of Engineering within Dalsem is a critical role in the organisation and in this function you will work very close with the Project Management Organization.

Your responsibilities in the role include:

Leadership

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, technicians, and support.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the team's success.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Develop (or acquire) and maintain knowledge of engineering team.
  • Support to prepare preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.


Resource Management

  • Oversee the forward planning of manpower to assure on-time delivery of drawings, specifications, and other documents, in close cooperation with the PMO.
  • Ensure the required quality of HVAC, irrigation, lighting, and environmental control systems.


Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

  • Develop and implement sustainable and energy-efficient practices within the greenhouse.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Stay updated on local and industry-specific regulations affecting greenhouse operations.


Budget and Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the department's budget, including cost control and resource allocation.
  • Procure necessary equipment and materials as needed.
  • Plan and oversee engineering tasks related to greenhouse expansion, upgrades, or modifications.


Data Analysis and Reporting

  •  Generate reports and provide insights to improve operations and decision-making.


Collaboration

  •  Collaborate with other departments, such as PMO, Sales, Procurement and manufacturing, to ensure seamless   integration of engineering solutions.
  • Participate in strategic planning and problem-solving initiatives.

 
Education and experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in greenhouse engineering, agricultural engineering, or a similar role is nice to have.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse systems, automation, and environmental control is nice to have.
  • Excellent problem-solving and project management abilities.
  • Understanding of sustainability and energy-efficient practices.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Fluency in both Dutch and English is required.
  • Willingness to travel.
